Children Are Our Mission. They Cannot Wait.
Evelyn Moon Simmons was a mother of nine.
She was kind, reserved, and deeply devoted. She couldn't drive, but her children got where they needed to go. She made sure they were in school plays and on sports teams. She kept them safe, kept them together, and showed them what love looks like in action.
When her health declined and her dialysis journey began, social workers stepped in with transportation, utilities, food, and medication assistance. That support didn't just help her. It helped her whole household.
She also carried the weight of mental health challenges quietly, the way many mothers do.
Evelyn Moon Simmons didn't have an organization behind her. She had determination, and people who showed up when it mattered most.
This organization carries her name because her life points directly to our mission — the safety and mentorship of Full Moon, the family-centered support of 2GAP, and the mental health intervention of RESET. She is not a symbol. She was a real woman who needed what we now provide.
We do this work in her honor.
Our Approach
Evelyn Moon Children's Services exists because children thrive when they have stability, access, and people who show up for them. We work alongside families, not around them, delivering services that address real barriers: mental health, education, transportation, crisis support, and caregiver training.
We partner with schools, local agencies, and community organizations across Calhoun County to close the gaps that put children at risk.

Children don't struggle alone, and neither should their families. 2GAP addresses the overlapping barriers facing both children and caregivers, delivering academic support and vital services to improve overall well-being.

In partnership with the Alabama Department of Human Resources, we provide professional shuttle services for TANF-qualified parents traveling to work, job training, and employment-related activities. Getting to opportunity shouldn't be the obstacle.
RESET

(Rapid Emotional Support Emergency Team)
When a child or family hits a crisis point, waiting isn't an option. RESET provides same-day intervention by certified, licensed professionals who stabilize the situation and connect families to the mental health support they need — fast.
AcademyED
The people who serve children need support too. AcademyED offers tailored professional training for educators, nonprofits, childcare providers, and social workers — building the knowledge, confidence, and compassion that stronger communities need.
